Caregiver Self-Assessment

If you are a family member that is responsible for caring for a loved one, take this self-assessment to monitor the emotional and physical distress you may be unknowingly experiencing:

?

  1. I see that my loved one is getting older and needing more help with activities of daily living.
  2. I worry when I know that my loved one is alone.
  3. I feel overwhelmed when I think about what my loved one needs.
  4. I feel strained between my work and family responsibilities.
  5. I feel useful and needed.
  6. I’ve been edgy, irritable, or lonely.
  7. I’ve had difficulty making decisions.
  8. I’m embarrassed about my loved one’s condition and behavior.
  9. Caring for my loved one affects my relationship with other family members and friends in a negative way.
  10. I don’t have enough money to take care of my loved one in addition to my other financial responsibilities.
  11. I feel burdened by my loved one.
  12. I feel guilty because I feel burdened.

If you have answered yes to 4 or more of these questions, you may want to talk with our professionals here at QCPGA. We are experienced in working with elderly individuals and their families. It is important to monitor how much emotional and physical distress you experience when providing home health aid for your loved one.
